How to Dress for the BCS Game

The Bowl Championship Series college football games are five premium games, including the national championship, played in January at the conclusion of the regular season. The games are held at four traditional sites: the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California; the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona; the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans and the Orange Bowl in Miami. One of these sites also hosts the championship game in addition to its own BCS bowl game. Fans who attend one of these games often travel from their home states to follow their favorite teams and root them on to victory.

Instructions

  1. Conventional Dress Options

    • 1

Wear a jersey of the team you are supporting in the BCS game. For example, if the Arizona State SunDevils are playing in the BCS Rose Bowl game, wear a cardinal and gold jersey, with your favorite player's name or just a regular team jersey.

    • 2

Wear a hooded sweatshirt or jacket with the logo and colors of your favorite team. Even traditional hot-weather areas such as Miami and Glendale will average temperatures in the 60's in January, so you want to wear something warm as the day gets colder.

    • 3

Dress in comfortable athletic shoes. You will likely be facing a long trek between the parking lot and your seats, so you need to wear cushioned shoes.

    • 4

Apply sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun and take a pair of dark glasses so you can see the field more clearly. The Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl and Fiesta Bowl are almost always guaranteed to be sunny because of their respective locations in Pasadena, Miami and Glendale. The Sugar Bowl is played in New Orleans' enclosed Superdome.

    • 5

Paint your cheek with your team's logo or with your team's colors. Depending on the level of your fanaticism, you can also paint your entire face in team colors.

    Formal Dress Options

    • 6

Wear a dress shirt and slacks and a blazer or sport jacket if you are a man. If possible, choose a blazer that has one of the predominant colors of your favorite team. For example, if you're headed to the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans to support the Tennessee Volunteers, select an orange blazer, as orange and white are the team's colors.

    • 7

Wear an official team polo shirt and pair it with formal trousers and dress shoes if you are a man. Though team-designed polo shirts are classier than just wearing a T-shirt, the formal trousers give you the look of an avid fan who likes to dress up to support his team. Khakis are appropriate, too.

    • 8

Wear a long dress or a blouse and skirt if you are a woman. Accessorize with a purse or bag, and if you're truly brave, don a pair of your favorite heels. Otherwise, choose a stylish pair of flats. To show your team loyalty, choose dress colors that match those of your favorite team.

    • 9

Wear a team-designed sundress, tube dress or pleated dress with pockets if you are a woman. These dresses are usually made in your favorite team's predominant color, such as dark green if you support the Oregon Ducks, and the logo is often subtly embroidered into the dress to retain a classy appearance. Accessorize the dress with team-logo earrings and jewelry for a casually formal look.
