How to Face Paint to Show School Spirit

Face painting is done for a number of reasons, including camouflage for military personnel and for religious ceremonies. Showing school spirit for sports teams is another way face painting is used. Fans can have their faces painted in their school colors, or have a symbol or emblem of the school painted on their face. They can even, in the case of an animal mascot, have their face transformed into an animal face. Show your school spirit through face painting.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose what design you wish to use for your face, such as painting half your face in one of your school's colors and the other half in the other school color. Select a template to use or a photo to refer to when applying the paints.

    • 2

Apply base coats using a small sponge; for example, if you are painting an animal's face, apply a white or light color paint for the animal's "skin." Apply dark colors to light colors. Wet the sponge with water and squeeze it until it is almost dry. Rub the sponge in the face paint until you have enough to apply. Use a light, overlapping motion to apply the base coat.

    • 3

Rub the sponge in one color of paint, then into another color of paint if you are applying a blended color to the face. Overlap the colors to create texture and shading. Use additional sponges if necessary.

    • 4

Apply the detail paint, such as logo borders or animal whiskers, with a small paintbrush. Lightly touch the skin when applying the detail paint. Use the paintbrush to correct any mistakes made when applying the paint with the sponge.

    • 5

Clean all brushes and sponges using antibacterial hand soap and water. Allow the brushes and sponges to dry completely before storing.
