Off Road Trails in El Paso

There are many off-road trails to choose from in and around El Paso. If you are unsure about where to go, start off with one or more of these trails. A variety of challenges await. You will also be able to talk with other off-roaders on these trails to find other enjoyable trails.
  1. Hopping Jalapeno Trail

    • If you are looking for a challenging off-road area, you will want to go to the Hopping Jalapeno Trail. This is a short trail but it is more challenging than most of the others in the area. There are several ledges on this trail ranging from Size 2 to 3--even an area known as the "grease pit" which must be straddled in order for you to get across. This trail is located off of the Dona Ana Trail which is found off of the Rocky Acres Trail.

    Dona Ana Trail

    • This trail is actually several trails in one. While most of the trails are made from sand and easy to traverse, what draws the attention of people is how large the trail is. As you travel deeper on the trail, you will see drops that grow steeper as you continue down the trail. Off of the I-25, take a left off the ramp then a right onto Dona Ana road. You will take a right on Hill Road and when you go under the interstate you are at the beginning of the trail.

    Sandia Gulch

    • In the Chile canyons you can find the Sandia Gulch. It is a relatively narrow trail with many rocks to climb over. As the trail winds up the mountain, the rocks get larger until you reach the major waterfall in the area. This waterfall may be climbed as well, although the difficulty increases as you continue farther up. To reach this trail, you will need to turn at Waypoint SG15 which is located off of Box Canyon Trail.

    Patzcuaro's Revenge

    • Patzcuaro's Revenge is located off of the Sandia Gulch. This trail is not always open to the public because of the difficulty posed at different times during the year. When it is available, there are large rocks as well as a series of waterfall trails. These waterfall trails are difficult to climb and should only be done by people with climbing experience.

    Ol' Skool Off-Road Adventures

    • If you are searching for a service that specializes in off-road family adventures, you will want to consider Ol' Skool Off-Road Adventures. It specializes in 4x4 off-roading and has different trails that vary in difficulty from easy to extreme. It is run by two retired members of the Army who took their passion and turned it into a business. It is located near near Fort Bliss/El Paso.
