4X4 Jeep Trails in Texas

In a state as vast as Texas, you'd expect to find thousands of acres for off-roading in your Jeep, and you wouldn't be disappointed. There are more than enough Jeep roads and pathways in the Lone Star State to keep you trucking for a long time. You can go off-roading just about any time you want, and you also have access to clubs and groups that love the sport and are willing to share their knowledge about the best trails and where to find them.
  1. Angelina National Forest

    • The Angelina National Forest is located in Jasper, in east Texas, less than a half an hour west of Louisiana. The trails here have been designated 4x4 trails by the Forestry Service. Because this forest is so dense, don't even think about bringing your monster truck---it won't fit. A Jeep is the ideal vehicle for this almost impenetrable area. The Angelina Forest has "quick mud" and it's the same as quick sand---it will suck your vehicle right down into the earth, so it's not a good idea to go four-wheeling when it's raining here.

    Satan's Playground

    • Satan's Playground is located in Kerrville, Texas in Devils' River Valley and it's a specially designed spot for four-wheeling in your Jeep. The atmosphere is family friendly---no alcohol, firearms or littering are allowed; you can bring your pet but you must keep it on a leash. Satan's Playground is excellent for Jeep four-wheeling, but any kind of all-terrain vehicle can be used on the trails here. Private bookings are available anytime as long as they don't interfere with dates open to the public.
