How to Shoot a Bow With an Index Feather
An index feather is part of the fletching of an arrow. Arrow fletching traditionally consists of three feathers glued or tied to the arrow; the feathers stabilize its flight. The index feather is typically dyed or colored differently than the other feathers on the arrow. This feather tells the archer how to nock the arrow onto the bow for the optimum release and flight, increasing the accuracy of the archer's shot.

2
Grasp the arrow, and determine which feather is the index feather.
-
3
Nock the arrow on the bow, index feather turned outward. Seat the groove in the arrow in the bow string. Grip the arrow lightly between the second and third fingers.
-

Raise the bow and draw the bowstring, being careful not to pinch the arrow. Take aim at the target.
-
