Overnight Basketball Camps in Washington State

Basketball is a popular sport for young athletes in Washington, particularly during the rainy winter months of the regular season. Many student athletes take advantage of time off from school in the summer to fine-tune their basketball skills at camp. Overnight camps are available in both eastern and western Washington for individual players or teams and their coaches to dedicate an extended period of time to skill improvement and teamwork.

  1. NBC Camps

    • Founded in 1971 as Northwest Basketball Camp, NBC Camps are now located in several states and also include volleyball, football and soccer. NBC Camps bills itself as "the largest overnight basketball camp program in the world" and holds camps in Auburn, located south of Seattle; Spangle, located 18 miles from Spokane; Walla Walla; and Spokane, according to NBC's website. Campers in Auburn stay in dorms at Auburn Adventist Academy and spend five days focused on teamwork and skill development. In Spangle, campers stay at Upper Columbia Academy, a residential high school, and train for five days to be confident competitors on and off the court. All NBC Camps feature an Intensity Station, which is an hour-long power workout motivated by music that encourages athletes to push themselves beyond their limits.

    Gonzaga University

    • Located in Spokane, Gonzaga University has a highly regarded basketball program and the school's team frequently qualifies for the NCAA tournament each March. Camps are offered for individuals and teams with overnight or day options. Three team camps provide high school players the chance to stay for four or five days on campus with their coach and play a minimum of nine indoor games. Campers stay in dorm rooms and meals are provided for a minimum of eight players per team. A two-day Elite Camp is available for high school boys, with overnight accommodations provided for those traveling from a distant location. For boys entering third through 12th grades, an Advanced Skills Camp covers four days of fundamental skills and campers may stay overnight in campus dorm rooms.

    Washington State University

    • Washington State University, located in Pullman in the southeast corner of the state, holds annual basketball camps for individual players and teams. Because many teams and players travel from across the state, overnight campus accommodations are available and included in the price of the camps. A two-day Elite Camp is available to high school students and features advanced training with the head coach and Cougar players, according to WSU's website. Campers stay overnight and meals are included. A team camp extends for five days and is offered to coaches and their high school teams. Campus housing is provided and teams receive a guarantee of nine games to be played in WSU's indoor facilities at four levels of competition.
