How to Find a Bowling Coach

A professional bowling coach can help even a bowling novice dramatically improve her game, and teach the player how to develop the physical skills necessary to become a good bowler. The coach can help a player improve setup, posture, balance and timing the release of the ball. Trained coaches can spot areas that need improvement and develop strategies to improve game play. A bowling coach can also advise the player about proper bowling equipment like shoes, ball weight and gloves.

Ask the manager of the local bowling alley or the local bowling professional shop to recommend a bowling coach. Often bowling leagues employ coaches to help the members improve their game. Local amateur bowling champions may be offering their services as a coach. Check the bulletin board at your local bowling alley or look in the "services offered" section of your local newspaper classified section.

Join a bowling league. Bowling leagues (teams) often employ a certified coach to help members improve their games. Playing in a league will also help you improve your game because league bowlers are usually willing to coach new members.

Go to the United States Bowling Congress website at bowl.com. Click on the dropdown box at the top right side of the page and select "Find A Coach." Find your "Location" or do a search by "Zip Code" in the popup window, and expect your search results to list certified bowling coaches in your area. Bowling coaches that are certified by the USBC have passed series of courses and standardized examinations. Coaches are certified as Bronze, Silver or Gold, with Gold certified coaches being the most skilled coaches.
