How to Keep Boxing Gloves From Stinking

Boxing is an exciting and rigorous sport. After a few rounds in the ring, boxers are drenched in sweat, which means the interior of their gloves are, too. Over time, excessive moisture blends with bacteria and skin oils to create a pungent odor similar to that found in old shoes or on a dirty shirt. With some common household materials, you'll be able to get back into the ring without bringing odor along for the fight.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Sprinkle a generous coating of baking soda into your gloves. Shake the gloves vigorously to disperse the baking soda.

    • 2

Place your gloves near an open window, standing fan or cool vent. The circulating air along with the absorbent baking soda will help dry out your gloves and reduce odor immediately.

    • 3

Shake the excess baking soda out of your gloves. Spray the interior of each glove with a natural antibacterial spray and allow it to dry completely. Avoid sprays with bleach or excessive chemicals, as these may stiffen or damage your gloves.

    • 4

Fill two cotton socks with cedar chips and tie off the ends. Place one sock in each glove after use to quickly absorb sweat and leave them smelling of fresh, woodsy cedar.
