How to Do a Disc Golf In-Line Putt

Putting is one of the many similarities between club golf and disc golf. While club golf involves hitting the ball with a club, or iron, disc golf putting involves throwing the disc in a certain way when close to the hole or, in the case of disc golf, the basket. In-line putting is one putt you can employ. Here's how best to do an in-line putt in disc golf.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand with your plant foot just inside the lie marker, in line with the basket. Place your other foot behind your plant foot. This stance is what distinguishes an in-line putt.

    • 2

Grip the disc underhand, with all of your fingers except the pointer finger beneath the disc. Lay your pointer finger along the edge of the disc and your thumb on top of the disc.

    • 3

Aim directly at the basket. Extend your arms a few times to line up the disc with the basket. When you're comfortable that you are in-line with the basket, it's time to make the putt.

    • 4

Make the putt by bringing your arm back at chest level and then extending your arm, releasing the disc when your arm is fully extended.

    • 5

Throw backhand straight at the basket. This is the way most golf disc putters throw when putting and seems to be the best manner in which to in-line putt.

    • 6

Snap the disc quickly as you throw or throw it gently, trying to float it into the basket. Practice both ways and see which way is more comfortable for you.
