How to Do a Disc Golf Roller Shot

If you're familiar with disc golf, you know there are several types of throws you can make. Rather than hitting a ball with a club, in disc golf you throw a Frisbee-like disc into a basket. Participants most commonly use anhyzer throws, hyzer throws, snap shots and roller shots, among others. Follow the steps below to make a roller shot in disc golf.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the foot opposite your throwing arm perpendicular to your target to begin your roller shot. Hold the disc level with your ear opposite your throwing arm.

    • 2

Wind back your hips, shoulders and arm and place your weight on the foot opposite your throwing arm, or the off foot. Rotate your hips and shoulders and move your other foot, the plant foot, forward.

    • 3

Start to bring your throwing arm around, moving the disc across in front of your face. Set your plant foot forward. Continue to rotate your shoulders and hips. Make sure the disc is at a 45-degree angle.

    • 4

Shift your weight to your plant foot. Extend your arm forward to release the disc. Keep turning your shoulders and arms ahead of your hips.

    • 5

Snap the disc out of your hand when you fully extend your throwing arm to make the roller shot. Continue to rotate your shoulders and arms as you make the throw. Pivot your plant foot as you finish the throw.

    • 6

Release the disc at a 45-degree angle so that it hits the ground at an angle and rolls. You have now completed a successful roller shot in disc golf.
