How to Measure for Lineman Gloves

The bodies of football linemen receive constant abuse, even with several pounds of padding. Since linemen must use their hands to hold back competitors, finger injuries occur frequently. While hand injuries may be unavoidable, they can be reduced with the help of lineman gloves. These gloves contain dense padding, which can help prevent jammed knuckles and fractured bones. To get the best possible protection, a linemen must wear the appropriate size of gloves.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the dominant hand down on a flat surface, such as a table or counter top. The wrist should not be bent at all.

    • 2

Measure the distance from the base of the hand to the tip of the middle finger with a fabric tape measure. Write the measurement down on a sheet of paper.

    • 3

Compare the measurement to the sizes of your chosen brand of lineman glove. Different brands may use different sizes, so a "Large" from one brand may not necessarily be the same as a "Large" from a different brand. The size information should be easily visible on the price tag for the glove or in the "Description" section for online vendors.
