How to Wear a Football Jersey

When wearing a football jersey for competition, there are a set of rules that must be followed. The rules are designed to keep the safety of the players in mind as well as to ensure a level playing field among the participants. Wearing a jersey that is against the rules could result in the team getting a penalty. If the jersey provides an unfair advantage to the player in question, he will not be allowed to participate.

Instructions

Tuck it in. Football jerseys must be tucked into the pants at all times during the game. Jerseys that are cut above the waist are prohibited.

    • 2

Make sure it covers the shoulder pads. Football jerseys that are too small and do not cover the shoulder pads are illegal. The pads must be covered to help avoid injury. Shoulder pads have moving parts and sharp edges that could injure a player trying to make a tackle.

Check to make sure the jersey is not tear-away. Jerseys that tear apart in the hands of a would-be tackler are illegal. They provide an unfair advantage to the player who is getting tackled, as it becomes harder for the opponent to bring him down.
