How to Customize Flag Football Jerseys

Flag football, which is not as physical as the actual game of football, uses similar jerseys during game play. While the padding is not always used during this friendly sport, the jerseys each team member wears are. Customizing flag football jerseys to make the team stand out is not difficult or costly. Using a variety of iron-on letters, which can be purchased at a craft store for less than 5 dollars per pack, you can customize any jersey with the team name, player's number and player's name.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a color of iron-on letters and numbers that can be easily seen on the jersey from a distance, such as dark colors that contrast with a light-colored jersey. Choose characters in an appropriate size that are small enough to fit a child's jersey or large enough to be seen on an adult-sized uniform.

    • 2

Lay the flag football jersey over the ironing board so that the front is facing upward. Use the ruler to align the letters evenly across the front of the jersey to spell out the team name.

    • 3

Turn the iron on a low heat setting and allow the iron to heat up for 3 minutes. Peel off the translucent paper that protects the adhesive on the letter and position the letter on the jersey. Firmly press the iron down onto the letter in 5-second increments until the letter adheres to the jersey. Continue with each letter until the entire team name is spelled out on the jersey. Allow the characters to cool onto the jersey for 10 minutes before handling it.

    • 4

Place the jersey on the ironing board with the back of the jersey facing upward. Use the ruler to place the team player's name evenly between the shoulders and center the numbers. Remove the translucent paper from the letters and numbers. Iron on each of the letters and numbers individually in the same manner described in Step 3.
