How to Make a Football Scoreboard
Things You'll Need
- 2 8' x 4' sheet of 3/4'' medium density plywood
- Sandpaper
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
- Hacksaw
- 2 1-gallon cans of paint in desired color
- Medium paintbrush
- Wood sealer
- Power drill
- 8 large eye hooks
Instructions
-
-
1
Sand the edges of one sheet of medium density plywood so that each of the edges are completely smooth.
-
2
Measure and cut the wooden tiles for the numbers. Create four rows that are each one foot deep. Create eight columns that are each one foot wide. This will create 32 blocks that are one foot square.
-
3
Use the hacksaw to cut out each of the square blocks.
-
4
Sand down each of the blocks along the front and side edges until each of the blocks are smooth.
-
5
Paint the wooden blocks with the corresponding numbers. Use the medium paintbrush to paint one number on each block. You will need to paint 10 numbers total--0 through 9. There should be two of every number except for the numbers one and two, of which there should be three. Allow the blocks to fully dry before moving on.
-
6
Drill two holes in each of the wooden blocks. The hole should be placed in the corners one inch from the side and top.
-
7
Coat the wooden blocks with wood sealer to protect the numbers from weather damage.
-
8
Divide the large piece of medium density plywood in half and mark the division with a pencil to serve as a guide.
-
9
On one half of the board, paint the word "visitors" in all capital letters. On the other half of the board, paint the word "home" in all capital letters. Allow the letters to fully dry before moving on.
-
10
Apply a thin coat of wood sealer to the scoreboard to protect the board from weather damage.
-
11
Drill the holes for the numbers. Lay two of the number blocks on the scoreboard to use as a template. Place one board exactly one foot from the side and one foot from the bottom of the scoreboard. Place the second board directly next to the first. Trace the location of the holes onto the board.
-
12
Insert the eye hooks into the board where you marked the holes in step 11. When keeping score throughout the game, place the numbers onto the eye hooks in the corresponding location.
