How to Determine an Anchor Point

Finding an anchor point will not only improve your putting ability, it will also improve the way that you look at greens in general. By making sure that you are accounting for the anchor point in a green, you will be able to predict where the ball is going to go when you putt. Because every ball breaks downhill, determining where the low point of the green is will forever change the way you look at your golf game.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the green. The first step to learning where the anchor points are is finding the low point of the green.

    • 2

Discover the lowest point. This should be fairly clear. If you imagine water trying to escape the green, determine where it would actually leave the green: that is your low anchor point. Some greens will have several low points.

    • 3

Find the high point of the green. Look at the green and determine which point is the highest. By finding this point you now know the anchor points and can determine the slope of the green.
