Titleist 983K Driver Specifications
-
Basics
-
The Titleist Pro Titanium 983K driver has a 365cc full pear profile, making it a rather large-headed club that is heavier than its counterpart, the 983E. Its manufacturer claims that the full-pear shape gives the club a moderate launch angle and a high amount of inertia, leading to a long and straight flight. The 983K internal weighting is slightly biased toward the heel, giving the club a deep center of gravity. This driver has a graphite shaft with standard shaft flexibility.
Features
-
Titleist's 983K model driver features a thin outer flange, which the company claims improves its coefficient of restitution (COR) or the club face's potential for ball rebound. The club's face insert features thin beta titanium construction meant to produce higher ball speed and increase the COR. Its plasma face weld is meant to create a consistent ball speed via delivering an even weight distribution and eliminating excess weld weight. The rear skirt of the 983K features a thick wall for a high initial launch angle. Its face height aims for moderate-to-low spin.
Reception
-
At the time of its release, the Titleist 983K was a fairly well-received driver. Reviewers at enthusiast website SirShanksAlot pointed out that Titleist geared the 983K -- as well as its sister club, the 983E -- to more experienced players. Golf journalists at the site praised the 983K for its penetrating ball flight, workability and solid feel. Golf Product News called the 983K driver a departure from Titleist's previous offerings, noting the club's pleasing appearance and manageability but ultimately reporting that the club was a divisive offering, loved by some players and found "disagreeable" by others.
Availability and Pricing
-
Since its discontinuation, the Titleist Pro Titanium 983K drive has become something of a rarity. As Titleist no longer produces the club, golfers will have to turn to secondhand shops, online sporting goods stores, enthusiast trading forums and online auction sites. As of 2011, a secondhand 983K driver could be had for prices ranging from about $30 up to $150. The 2011 PGA Value Guide lists the club's trade-in worth at between $14 and $20.
