How Do I Purchase Hockey Pucks?
-
Pucks in Bulk
-
Purchasing hockey pucks in bulk is a way to save money when outfitting a team for practice. Any online hockey retailer will offer pucks for bulk sale, but contacting a local hockey store and speaking with a salesman about a bulk order is a way to potentially save more money. Official size and weight pucks are usually sold for between $1.25 and $1.50.
Weighted and Youth Pucks
-
Pucks other than the official 5.5 to 6-oz. black pucks are available for practice and training purposes. Orange pucks are weighted to 10 oz. for practicing, white pucks are available for goalie training and blue pucks are weighted to 4 oz. for young hockey players. These specialized pucks are available at any hockey retailer.
The Right Number
-
When buying pucks for a team practice, consider how many is the right number. Also take in account the training you will be doing: goalie, stick handling, passing or youth. If you have sufficient reason to purchase specialized pucks for practice, do so but keep the number small. To hold an effective practice with a team of 18 to 20 players, you should have close to 50 practice and game pucks on the ice.
Souvenir Pucks
-
Most ice arenas and local hockey shops sell a wide array of souvenir pucks with NHL team logos, local junior and amateur team logos and other collectible designs. The pricing for such pucks is higher, at around $5 apiece.
