How to Heat Mold Ice Skates at Home

New ice skates look nice but often feel terrible during the first few times you wear them. Blisters and soreness often occur with new skates. To alleviate the pain that can come with your new skates, heat mold them at home. When you heat mold your skates, you help break them in and make them more comfortable without causing distress to your feet and ankles.

Turn your oven on and set the temperature for 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep the oven turned on until it reaches temperature and turn it off.

    • 2

Loosen the laces on your skates so your foot slips in and out of the skate easily.

    • 3

Place your skates on a clean baking sheet. When you place the skates on the sheet, ensure that they do not touch each other.

    • 4

Put the baking sheet with the skates in the oven. Pull the baking sheet out every three minutes and check the softness of the skate. Gently touch the skate with your fingertip.

    • 5

Take the skates out of the oven once the foam on the ankle feels soft to the touch.

    • 6

Insert your feet into your skates. Gently pull the laces as you lace up the skate. Lace the skates tighter than you normally wear your skates. A tighter lace molds the skate to your foot better.

    • 7

Sit down with your feet planted flat on the floor. Keep your feet pressed to the floor while the skates cool down. Walk around in the skates for a few minutes and then sit back down with your feet flat on the floor.

    • 8

Remove the skates from your feet after 30 minutes. Carefully unlace the skates. Do not tug at the laces.
