How to Do Hang Tens on Skateboards

The term "hang ten" was made popular by surfers who would stand on the nose of their board and hang all 10 toes off the edge. The same concept is now used by skateboarders who stand on the nose of their board. The trick is a bit different in that the toes do not actually hang over the edge, but they do get as close as possible. Incorporate this move into other tricks, such as a kick flip or ollie.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your right foot on the center of your skateboard. Push off on the ground with your left foot to start the skateboard rolling, then place your left foot on the board, behind your right foot. At this point, you should be in a normal skating position.

    • 2

Move your left foot to the nose (front) of the board with your toes facing forward. Place it on the left half of the nose to make room for your other foot.

    • 3

Move your right foot next to your left foot, so they are side by side and both facing forward. Lean back a tiny bit to compensate for the fact that all of your weight is on the front wheels of your board. Practice until you are able to find a comfortable balance that keeps you upright.
