How to Use Arm Wrestling Straps

In the sport of arm wrestling, a strap is used tie the two participants hands together assuring that neither will move away. Straps are generally employed when there is a slip but can also be used when the participants' angling and edging for advantage makes it difficult for the match to happen. The strap itself is a simple length of flat nylon rope with either a buckle or Velcro at one end which wraps around the hands and wrists of the arm wrestlers.

Instructions

    • 1

Have the two participants put their hands together as though readying to take a grip, but they should keep their hands open.

    • 2

Place one end of the strap over the top of the hands so that it lays in the gap between both wrestlers' thumb and fingers. Let one end, with either the buckle or the Velcro, hang onto the back of one wrestler's hand.

    • 3

Bring the strap down, over the back of the other wrestler's hand and underneath the grip.

    • 4

Wrap the strap completely around one wrestler's wrist. The strap should be placed no lower than one inch beneath the wrestler's wrist.

    • 5

Bring the strap completely around the other wrestler's wrist so that the strap itself is tied into a figure-8 between the two wrists, like a pair of handcuffs.

    • 6

Pull the loose end of the strap up to the end sitting on the back of the one wrestler's hand and either tuck the end into the buckle or attach the Velcro. The final tie should go over both wrestlers' hands and around both wrists. Cinch the strap so that there is no slippage, but not so tight that it's too uncomfortable for the wrestlers.
