How to Hit Boxes on Skis

When you tire of the runs and lifts, hit a ski box. Ski boxes are lifted surfaces that provide some deviation to a typical ski routine. A ski box can also result in a fall if you don't "hit" it properly. Before your skis touch the box and as they leave, you must position your skis and body a specific way. Once you get familiar with how to get on and off the box, you can hit the box at faster speeds, spin and do other tricks.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a box that is set up for beginners. Beginner boxes are low, about one to two feet high, and flat.

    • 2

Ski toward the box at a comfortable speed. Beginners should ski at a slow to medium speed, rather than fast.

    • 3

Lift both ski poles off the ground when the front of your skis are one to two feet away from the beginning of the box.

    • 4

Turn your entire body and the skis to the left or right, bend your knees and jump onto the box with your skis.

    • 5

Slide sideways down the length of the box.

    • 6

Slide off the box with skis still pointed sideways. Turn your body slightly forward and straighten out your body as you glide off the box.
