How to Adjust the Volkl Motion Binding

Volkl is well-known in alpine-skiing circles. The company produces skis, ski bindings and a range of accessories. The Volkl Motion series of bindings are made to work with the ever-widening skis made for today's aggressive all-mountain skiers. Like all modern skin bindings, the Motion series uses DIN gauge and adjustment to provide custom settings for the skier. Depending on the model of the Motion binding, the DIN goes as high as 16 and as low as 4. As a general rule, the higher the DIN setting, the more advanced the skier should be.

Instructions

    • 1

Take your weight with all ski boots and gear. Use a scale if needed. Consult a DIN adjustment chart (see Resources) and find the ski ability ratings.

    • 2

Pick out your rating on the chart, starting at 1 for beginner skier and going up to 3+ for advanced skiers. Don't try to overstate your experience. Doing so places you at risk for injury and takes away from your fun and enjoyment, as the skis and bindings will hinder your progress. Be honest about your skiing abilities.

    • 3

Cross-reference the DIN chart to find the recommended setting for the bindings. Set your skis up on a bench or other flat surface and locate the large, single screw set off the heel-piece of the Motion bindings.

    • 4

Using the screwdriver, turn the screw clockwise to increase the DIN or counterclockwise to decrease the DIN. Keep your eye on the DIN indicator and stop when the needle is aligned with the DIN setting gleaned from the chart.

    • 5

Take the skis and bindings out for a test run on a mellow slope to ensure the settings and bindings are working for you and your abilities.
