How to Install Ski Bindings

There are many different types of skis and ski bindings. The shape, size and type depends on what the skier is trying to accomplish. Because of the risk of injury if the installation is done wrong, Allen Smith of onthesnow.com recommends having a professional install your bindings at a pro shop. However, it is possible to do it yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Snap the toe of the boot into the toe piece of the binding. Center the boot on the ski, making sure it's steady and will not move.

    • 2

Use a marker to make a dot in the screw hole. Double-check with a ruler that it's centered before making the mark. Keep the marker and ruler close because it will be used several times for each piece. The toe and heel pieces are separate from each other.

    • 3

Take a screw that is slightly smaller than the hole. Use that screw to drill halfway through the ski. Be careful not to drill through the entire ski.

    • 4

Fill the holes halfway with epoxy putty. Do not fill it full because it will spill over when you insert the screw.

    • 5

Remove the boot from the binding if it is still snapped in place. Lay the toe piece of the binding over the holes, insert the screws into the holes and screw them down tightly. If any epoxy comes out of holes, wipe it away with a towel.

    • 6

Snap the heel piece of boot into the heel piece of the binding. Repeat steps 1-5 for the heel piece.

    • 7

Repeat steps 1-6 for the opposite ski. Allow at least 24 hours before using the skis.
