About Dynastar Skis

From humble beginnings in Sallanches, France, Dynastar has gone on to ensure its position as a leading brand of ski specialists. The story is unusual, and like its logo (inspired by Sallanches' coat of arms, which depicts the meeting of two streams) Dynastar has merged with various brands throughout its history.
  1. History

    • The company began in 1963 as a distributor for Starflex skis, jointly manufactured by Dynamic and Les Plastiques Synthetiques. These new fiberglass skis, and the team's next creation for the 1964 Winter Olympics, the Dynamic VR7, motivated the company to move from distributing to manufacturing. The brand became Dynastar, a contraction of the names Dynamic and Starflex. In 1965 Les Ressorts du Nord bought the brand, and another Sallanches company, Aluflex joined them. The French ski team then secured 16 medals at the 1966 World Championships in Portillo, raising the profile of the brand, and the following year it was purchased by Rossignol.

    Competition

    • There are several successful Dynastar teams competing in racing, free-ride, freestyle and ski-mountaineering disciplines. Since the 1966 World Championships, the brand has achieved further success, including Tommy Moe's win in the 1994 Olympic downhill. Julien Lizeroux, whose track record includes three wins in the World Cup, two World Championship runner-up titles and second place in the World Cup Slalom 2010 continued a sponsoring contract with Dynastar for another two year term in April 2010.

    Innovations

    • Dynastar is well-known for advancing technology. The brand is still located in the Chamonix Valley, and its skis are tested on the slopes of Mont Blanc, with team riders fully involved in development. A key innovation is "Autodrive" technology, which increases power and fluidity in linked turns. Cap construction is used near the tip of the ski for easy entry into the turn, and traditional vertical sidewalls further back provide grip and power.

    Types

    • You will find a broad range of Dynastar skis for men, women and juniors. There are "Race" skis for experts, instructors and racers who require maximum control and power, right through to incredibly light "Mountaineering" skis that can handle all kinds of snow. If you're after a smooth, stable ride then the "Piste-performance" or "Recreational" skis will give you the confidence you need. For acrobats, the "Freestyle" range will provide optimum performance in the park.

    Considerations

    • When searching for your perfect Dynastar ski, there are a number of points to consider, and it is important to discuss your requirements with a specialist dealer. Type and size of ski are important factors. Your perfect ski length will take into account your weight, ability, the terrain you'll be skiing and the type of ski you require.
