How to Keep Your Feet From Coming Out of a Snowboard

The snowboard bindings prevent falls, slips and other injuries by securing your feet to your snowboard. The bindings are tools that link all your maneuvers and moves to the board so you can ride effectively down the snow slopes. Proper installing and tightening of the bindings are important to your safety and performance. With well-attached bindings, you can concentrate on perfecting your favorite snowboard tricks rather than worrying about your feet coming off the board.

Instructions

Match the size of your bindings with your snowboard boots. Test the fit by putting on the boots and stepping inside the bindings. The fit should be snug but not too tight or restricting. If the fit is loose or too tight, the ride becomes uncomfortable and your feet are more likely to come off the bindings.

Position the bindings properly on the board depending on your lead foot. You have a "regular" stance if your left foot rides in front and your right foot is in the back. You have a "goofy" stance if your right foot is forward and the left foot is in the back. Positioning your stance correctly helps secure your feet on the bindings.

Match the left foot and right foot of the bindings correctly to your chosen stance. To determine right from left, look at the direction of the curve in the bindings' forefoot. The curve should resemble a normal shoe. Mismatching of the two compromises the hold of the bindings, which can cause your feet to get thrown off.

Screw the mounting discs securely to your board using the screwdriver and screws. Mounting discs are located at the bottom of the bindings and serve to connect the bindings to the board. Tighten the screws and make sure they are secure.

Secure all the ankle and toe straps of the bindings before going down the snow slopes. Put your foot as far back in the binding as you can and then insert the strap into the end of the buckled strap until your hear the ratchet clicks. Tighten the strap by pulling the lever on the buckle back and away from your boot. Allow the lever to spring back to position and push until the strap is sufficiently tightened. Repeat this for all other straps.
