How to Keep Your Heel From Coming Out of Your Snowboard Boot

A day spent snowboarding on the mountain can be great fun, but can be ruined by minor problems such as your heel lifting off of the bottom of your snowboard boot. This problem is typically encountered by people with skinny heels and ankles, or those who have been wearing the same pair of snowboard boots for a long time. There are several solutions to the heel lift problem, depending on how much of an investment in new equipment you want to make.

Things You'll Need

  • Wool socks
  • Heat moldable liner

Try wearing a thick sock, such as wool, or several layers of socks. As snowboard boots get broken in, padding compresses and gaps start showing up in what was once a snug fit. The extra sock can help take up some of the extra space in your boot.

Replace your current snowboard boot liner with a full-lace liner. The full-lace liner will create a snug fit around your foot and will make it much harder for your heel to lift off.

Replace your snowboard boot liner with a heat-moldable liner. The heat moldable liner will conform better to your foot and help to hold your heel in place in the boot.

Install J-Bars on the outside of your snowboard boot liner. J-Bars are self-adhesive pads that you stick to the snowboard boot liner, just above where your heel is located. The extra material of the J-Bar inside the snowboard boot creates a pinch just above your heel, preventing your heel from rising.
