How to Fit Your Snowboard Boot With Binding

Once you have your snowboarding boots, it is time to choose bindings --which keep you firmly attached to your snowboard. Buying the proper bindings for your boots helps ensure your safety and comfort on the mountain. While there are a few different types of binding available, strap bindings or rear-entry bindings work well for most snowboarders. Factors to consider when fitting your snowboard boot with bindings include comfort, fit and price.

Instructions

    • 1

Take your boots with you when shopping for bindings. The best way to find a match is to try your boots with different bindings.

    • 2

Determine the type of binding you want. Strap bindings usually have two straps that fit over the top of the boot, with a stationary highback plate. Rear-entry bindings are similar, but the highback plate drops down so you can slide your foot into them.

Put on your boots, and place them in the first pair of potential bindings. Tighten the straps to a snug, yet comfortable level -- where your foot can breathe, yet the boot doesn't slide around in the binding. With the straps tightened, the outside of each strap shouldn't touch the floor -- where your snowboard will be.

Ensure the toes of your boots don't hang too far over the bindings' front edges, though an inch or two is okay. When standing on the bindings, the bottom of the boots should be flush with the bindings' base plate.

Make sure the bindings are compatible with your snowboard or the board you plan on buying. While style is less important than comfort and safety, you may want to find bindings that match well with your boots and board.
