How to Make a Smaller Snowboard Binding Fit a Bigger Boot

If you have pair of snowboard boots that feel too big for a set of snowboard bindings, as long as the bindings are highback style, there is a way of adjusting the binding straps to accommodate slightly larger boots. If the boot is much too large, say a size 13 paired with a medium binding, the adjustment won't work because the range is too great. Use this adjustment for minor size differences between the boot and binding.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the boots, without you in them, into the bindings. Wrap the straps around the boot and tighten to the first or second ratchet setting for each binding.

    • 2

Unscrew the strap at the binding attachment point. On most snowboard bindings, there are a series of strap screw holes, allowing the binding to accommodate a range of boot sizes.

    • 3

Move the strap one set of screw hole settings toward the end to give the straps a larger range of attachment to the boots.

    • 4

Tighten the ratchet straps to the boots down two or three more settings. Adjust until the strap goes in between four and five ratchet settings over the boot, giving adequate security for the boot and rider.

    • 5

Remove the boots from the bindings, put them on and slide into the bindings wearing the boots. Adjust the straps to ensure you still have the four or five ratchet settings while you have your feet in the boots.
