How to Know if Your Snowboard Is the Right Height for You

Snowboarding is difficult enough, so you don't need wrong-sized equipment making it even more challenging. That's why it's important to get the right size board for your height, weight and riding style, as this will allow you the best combination of float and control.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the board in front of yourself. A snowboard should generally stand between your chin and your eyes.

    • 2

Check weight recommendations. In addition to height, weight plays a factor because the board is designed to keep you floating over snow. Check the manufacturer's weight guidelines.

    • 3

Consider your experience level. In general, beginners will opt for shorter boards as they'll be easier to control. More advanced riders can benefit from the extra speed and float of a longer board.

Consider your riding style. If you plan to spend all or most of your time in the park, a shorter board is easier and lighter to spin, jump and perform tricks. Longer boards are better for powder, big-mountain riding and speed.

Check the width. Snowboard length is the most obvious size parameter to check, but width is also important. You want the width to be as close as possible to the length of your snowboard boot. You don't want your boot hanging off and you don't want a lot of room between your toe and the board's edge. If you have a foot larger than a men's size 10, you may need to go for a designed wide board.
