Measure your height up to your chin or nose in inches, and convert that figure to centimeters. Weigh yourself. The measurements will help you decide how long you want your board to be. Be aware that snowboards are measured in centimeters, not in inches.

2
Size your board. A basic rule of thumb: When you stand a board on an end, one that fits you well will reach somewhere between your nose and your chin. For example, a 6 ft. 3 in. (190.5 cm) rider will choose a board between 172 and 166 cm long. If you are significantly heavier than average, consider a longer board.

Find your style. As you snowboard more you'll find a preference for certain types of snow and terrain. You may like to carve down the mountain, turning quickly side to side. Or perhaps you prefer floating on fresh powder or the thrill of the half pipe.
A longer board gives you the stability and balance to handle back-country powder fields but decreases your turning responsiveness. Intermediate to advanced snowboarders will find a shorter board handy on difficult runs and half pipes where maneuverability is critical. A shorter board requires more skill to handle, however.

Consider other variables besides length. Width and flexibility (flex) will influence your ride. Wider boards provide more stability, while narrower boards allow you to turn quickly. As a beginner, you may appreciate the easier maneuverability of a soft, or flexible, board. Intermediate and advanced snowboarders prefer a stiffer board to handle more technical runs.
