How to Buff the Top of a Snowboard

After a tough season on the slopes, the top of your snowboard will be covered with dirt and riddled with scratches and small dents. Though snowboards are built to endure plenty of abuse, these imperfections can become annoying to look at after awhile. Most of these marks can be buffed out with an abrasive rubbing compound and a buffing pad. Once the top of the board has been buffed, it can be polished for a lustrous like-new shine.

Instructions

    • 1

Smooth any rough patches around the outside of your board using a piece of fine grit sandpaper attached to a sanding block.

    • 2

Make a mixture of warm water and several drops of mild dish soap. Stir the solution until it is sudsy. Wash the top of the board of all dirt, dried salt and other residue using a microfiber cloth saturated with the solution. Pat dry with a clean, soft towel.

    • 3

Apply a generous amount of rubbing compound to your buffing pad. Start from one end of the board and begin buffing vigorously. Use firm pressure and a rapid circular motion as you buff. For faster results, use an electric buffer to distribute the compound over the board.

    • 4

Continue buffing across the entire length of the board, applying more rubbing compound as needed. Make your way around the binding clips with caution.

    • 5

Wipe away excess rubbing compound with a damp towel. Add a shiny gloss to the top of the board by buffing rapidly with a polishing cloth.
