How to Know Which Side of a Snowboard Is the Front
Trying to clip your boots into your snowboard's bindings can be a perplexing experience if you can't differentiate between the front and rear -- called the nose and tail -- of the board. If you mistake the tail for the nose, you may find yourself riding in an opposite stance, which can throw off your balance and make for an uncomfortable ride down the slopes. Learn which side of your board belongs in front before jumping off the lift for a smooth, controlled trip down the hill.

1
Place your snowboard on its side so that you are facing down at its edges.
-
2
Note which side of the snowboard curves upward slightly. This indicates the nose of the board, which is raised to allow for smoother riding in powdery snow. On some boards, the nose may also come to a subtle point.
-
3
Check the orientation of your bindings. Whether you ride with your right or left foot forward, the front binding will be closest to the nose of the board.
-
4
Label the nose and tail for future reference if desired. A black permanent marker or paint pen will provide a lasting mark on your snowboard's surface.
