1
Measure the width of your shoulders. Measure across your back from the outside of each deltoid. Measure the length of one of your legs. Measure from the bottom outside of your foot to the greater trochanter on the outside of your hip.

2
Determine your riding percentages. Divide your snowboarding into big mountain riding, freestyle park time and time spent cruising. Big mountain riding is also known as extreme boarding. Riding steeps is an experts-only endeavor. Freestyle parks are designed for snowboarders to catch air and make aerial maneuvers. Both beginners and experts use freestyle parks. Cruising is riding a board down intermediate runs, making wide, carving turns. Primarily beginners, youth and geriatrics cruise. Decide which style dominates your riding.

3
Set the bindings shoulder width apart with the center line of your body over the center line of your board if you are a cruiser. This distance apart gives you upper body leverage to set an edge and carve.
-
4
Set the bindings shoulder width apart plus 6 inches if you spend your time boarding in a freestyle setting. This stance allows you to quickly move your board, yet still gives you the upper-body leverage to throw a move.
-
5
Set the bindings at a distance equal to 75 percent of your legs' length if you primarily board extreme terrain. The wide stance allows your to keep a low center of gravity and turn the board quickly. This stance is physically demanding on your legs, but allows for the greatest control of your board.
