How to Fold Down the Hinge on a Snowboard Binding

While you need your binding high backs up to ride the mountain, keeping them up while traveling makes your snowboard awkward and gawky. And if you walk around with it like that, there's a good chance you'll knock into someone with your bindings. The high back on a snowboard binding is hinged so that you can move it up to ride and fold it down to transport the board.

Instructions

  1. Folding for Transport

    • 1

Open both the toe straps and ankle straps on the binding, so that each is separated into its two parts.

    • 2

Lower the high back of the binding so that it lays flat.

    • 3

Reconnect the toe and ankle straps. Tighten the straps down to keep the high back in place. This will give the board a smaller, tighter profile, so you can slide it into a board bag or carry it without bashing into things with the high backs.

    Adjusting Lean

    • 4

Open the lean adjustment on the back of the binding. The specific hardware varies by binding; it may require a screwdriver, or may have a lever that you can simply pop open without having to use a tool.

    • 5

Slide the lean adjustment up or down to suit your preference. Increasing the lean will give you more heel-side response and keep your legs bent into position. Too much lean may prove uncomfortable and too reactive on the heel side, though. Like other binding settings, forward lean equates to personal preference, so experiment and find what's most comfortable.

    • 6

Tighten the lean adjustment. When you've found the appropriate lean setting, re-fasten the lean adjustment by closing the lever or tightening the screw.
