How to Replace Straps on Burton Bindings

There are two types of snowboard bindings: those designed for soft-shell boots and those with toe and heel clips designed for hard-shelled boots. The bindings designed for soft-shell boots have one strap with a clip on the end and another with teeth the clip fastens to in order to secure the straps in place. Regular wear-and-tear break the straps, grinds down the teeth and snaps the clips. Replacing the straps requires two tools and about five minutes.

Locate the two securing bolts on the strap that requires replacement. They are found on the outside of the frame of the binding. The bolts have hex or Allen wrench heads. Grip the nuts attached to the bolts with pliers, one at a time. The nuts are on the inside of the binding while the bolt heads are on the outside of the binding frame. The nuts have a thin, flat base and a raised collar into which the bolt twists. Twist the bolts counterclockwise with the wrench to back the nuts off. Pull the nuts from the binding frame.

Pull the bolts from the binding frame along with strap. Remove the bolts from the damaged strap and slide them into the holes in the end of the replacement strap. Attached to the strap, slide the bolts into the holes in the frame of the binding.

Twist the nuts onto the ends of the bolts by hand. As you thread them on, the collars of the nuts disappear into the frame of the binding. Grip the base of the nuts with the pliers and tighten the bolts with a wrench. Tighten the bolts as secure as possible without stripping the heads.
