How to Build a Cheap Box for Snowboarding

Snowboarding boxes allows you to do many different tricks but buying one for yourself is usually too expensive. Building your own can be nearly as expensive unless you choose less expensive construction materials. Stainless steel and polyethylene are too pricey but a PVC material called Trex is an inexpensive alternative for topping your snowboard box. Choosing regular wood instead of pressure-treated also lightens the bill. Coat your snowboard box in cheap latex paint or it won't make it through more than a few winters.

Instructions

    • 1

      Cut 16 2-feet long pieces of 2-by 4-inch board.

    • 2

Lay two 8-feet long 2-by 4-inch boards on the ground parallel to each other and about two feet apart before laying four 2-feet boards across the 8-feet boards, forming an 8-feet long ladder. Evenly space the four boards across the pair of 8-feet boards.

    • 3

Screw the 2-feet boards into the8-feet boards with two screws on each side of the rungs of your 8-feet ladder.

    • 4

Lay the other two 8-feet boards down parallel to each other and lay another four 2-feet boards across the two parallel boards, spaced evenly.

    • 5

Screw the 2-feet boards into the 8-feet boards using two screws on each end of the boards to construct another 8-feet ladder.

    • 6

Stand the two ladders on their sides and parallel to each other about two feet apart before laying another four 2-feet boards across them at evenly spaced intervals.

    • 7

Screw each of the 2-feet boards into the sides of the 2 ladders, using two screws on each end of the boards. This gives you with a three-sided box frame.

    • 8

Turn your three-sided box over and lay the last four 2-feet boards across the remaining side of your box, spacing them evenly.

    • 9

Screw the 2-feet boards into the three-sided box using two screws on the ends of each board.

    • 10

Cut the plywood sheets into three 24-inch by 8-feet boards and two 24-by 24-inch boards.

    • 11

Screw the 24-inch by 8-feet boards to the top and both sides of your snowboarding box using three screws across each 2-by 4-inch frame board underneath.

    • 12

Screw the two 24 by 24 inch square boards to the ends of your box using three screws on each side of the square.

    • 13

Lay the 24-inch by 8-feet sheet of Trex across the top of your box before drilling three screw holes across the PVC sheet with your pilot hole drill bit, every 2 feet down the length of the top of the box.

    • 14

Screw the Trex sheet to the top of the snowboarding box through the pilot holes, making sure the screws are driven below the surface of the Trex.

    • 15

Screw two metal handles to each side of the snowboard box to make it easier to move around.
