How to Build Your Own Soccer Field Marker

If you are looking to build a regulation soccer field you will need a series of markers placed in the correct spots to maintain the rules of the game. Fields rated for professional play utilize special equipment for markings but that does not have to be the case here. Get creative and make your own markings with simple equipment. The main factor you need to understand is the correct placement of lines and markings.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit a sporting goods store or department store and purchase triangular banner flags and/or marking cones and spray paint rated for landscaping use. Look for disc-shaped cones for less interruption during games.

    • 2

Attach plastic banner flags to PVC pipes that are four to five feet tall.

    • 3

Use paint to make a straight line across the entire middle of the field. Complete center field markings by painting a circle in the center of the field that has a diameter of 20 yards.

    • 4

Mark the goal area by painting two complete right angles at the ends of the goal line. Paint these lines six yards from the goal posts. Lines should extend into the field six yards and should be joined by a line painted parallel with the line of goal. Paint this line extended into the field 18 yards.

    • 5

Mark the penalty area by painting a line 12 yards from the midpoint of the goal line.

    • 6

Mark the penalty kick locations by painting an arc 10 yards outside each penalty area. Place cones outside the arcs.

    • 7

Place flag posts made with plastic banner flags and PVC pipe inside the field of play to mark the corner areas on the field. Place your flag posts inside cones to hold them upright and allow for better visibility.
