Midwestern State University's men's soccer team finished their 2009-2010 season with an impressive 13-3-3 record overall. The Mustangs sported three all-American players and one academic all-American for the 2009-2010 season as well. Midwestern State University enrolls approximately 6,300 students each year and offers 43 undergraduate degree programs along with 24 different graduate degree programs.

Southern Methodist University in Dallas is one of the state's more prominent academic institutions in a variety of academic fields. Also sporting the Mustang as its mascot, the SMU men's soccer team finished its 2009-2010 season at 6-8-2. Despite the team's lack of recent success, it has been known to recruit some of the world's top players in the past. Ramon Nuñez of the Honduras national team was a standout player at SMU in 2003. SMU is a well-respected research institution affiliated with the United Methodist church. The Cox School of Business at SMU is nationally recognized as a top-50 business school according to U.S. News & World Report.

The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) is another prominent academic institution with a reputation for leadership and research in various fields of study such as business. UTD enrolls over 15,000 students each year. The institution is divided among its seven different schools: Arts and Humanities; Behavioral and Brain Science; Economic, Political and Policy Sciences; Engineering and Computer Science; Interdisciplinary Studies; Management; and Natural Sciences and Math. The UTD men's soccer team went 9-7-3 in the 2009-2010 academic school year. The school has had a soccer team since 1998. Its record in that span is an impressive 156-63-18, the product of 12 straight winning seasons. The team has won the American Southwest Conference twice during that span.
