Softball Helmet Ideas

Airbrushed designs on softball helmets are a great way to allow players self-expression in a sport where everyone on the team carry similar bags and wear identical uniforms. Before you decide to have a helmet airbrushed check with the coach and make sure it's within team and league rules. Some coaches prefer unity and some leagues require helmets have a uniformed look.
  1. Names

    • The most popular helmet designs incorporate a name. Most girls will get their nickname or first name on their helmets. These are usually airbrushed--graffiti-style--in the team or girl's favorite colors. If your child's team displays the last names on the back of the jersey, you might not want to include the first name on the helmet. This is for safety purposes--if you're traveling to an unfamiliar area you probably don't want strangers knowing your child's first and last name.

    Characters

    • If your child prefers to skip the name route, then get inspired by favorite cartoon characters. Make sure you take in a sample of what you'd like--not everyone watches cartoons. Supply the airbrush artist with an image to work from and give them an idea of placement and size. Single characters, for instance, might take up the entire helmet. If you want a handful of characters, have them strategically placed around the helmet. Hire someone proficient with this type of design--do your homework on local airbrush artists.

    Helmet Design

    • Incorporate softball into the helmet design as well. For example, have characters swinging a bat. Have the helmet painted as a giant softball with some evil eyes and a menacing grin. If you have a team mascot such as a bear or tiger, airbrush the mascot chewing a softball. Most artists prefer to work on a black or white helmet so that the designs pop. So make sure you check with them before purchasing a helmet specifically for painting.
