How to Remove the Barrel From a Winchester Model 84

Winchester's side-by-side shotgun is the model 84, functioning in the same simple manner as all double-barreled shotguns. While not quite as short as the Stoeger Coach Gun, the model 84 does provide ample firepower, firing two 12-gauge shells. It has a box lock break-barrel action. Model 84s may be dissembled in the same manner as all other double-barreled shotguns.

Instructions

    • 1

Unload the weapon, clearing the magazine tube and breach of cartridges.

    • 2

Pull the bolt assembly back and engage the safety, turning it to the "on" position, by pushing the safety tab ahead of the trigger group. The safety should not display red when it is on.

    • 3

Remove the magazine cap located directly below the muzzle.

    • 4

Slide out the spring from the magazine tube. Slide the forearm off the bottom of the tube as it is freed by the removal of the magazine cap.

    • 5

Pull the barrel forward with slight force. It should snap out of place so that it may be removed.
