Types of Handgun Holsters
-
Belt Holsters
-
Belt holsters, also called hip holsters, are most often made of nylon or leather. Most attach to a belt that slips through belt loops on a pair of pants. Some can be adjusted for left or right hand draw. Some attach with a metal clip instead of looping onto the belt. The clip allows for faster removal of the holster without removing the belt.
Belly Holsters
-
A belly holster is also known as a waistband holster. The word belly may be deceiving. This concealed holster holds the firearm close to the body trunk while permitting fast withdrawal. The handgun may be kept near the belly or near the back. This holster type is usually made of nylon and/or elastic material. Some can be worn inside the pants waistband.
Shoulder Holster
-
Shoulder holsters attach to one or both shoulders. Varieties are available for one or two concealed handguns so that the band attaches the two holsters behind the gun carrier’s neck and one handgun rests under each arm. In general, shoulder holsters are made of durable lightweight fabrics such as nylon.
Ankle Holster
-
An ankle holster is a concealed carrier typically used with small handguns. Lightweight fabrics such as nylon and Velcro attachments are commonly used for comfort and easy attachment and detachment.
Purse Holsters
-
Concealing purse holsters combine luxury, fashion and handgun access. Varieties include the backpack purse, the urban shoulder bag, the classic flip purse, the over-sized hobo bag, and the flat carry sack. Some provide access to the gun from the side of the purse. With others, access is from the top or the underside of the flip panel. Some are made of slash resistant fabrics. Some are short strapped. Others have long straps and can be worn cross body. Many come with additional pockets for a water bottle, cell phone, keys, make-up and other compartments.
