Fun Board
-
The fun board offers a surfer the speed of a long board with the maneuverability of a short board. It measures between 7 feet and 9 feet in length, 20 to 22 inches in width, and 2.5 to 3.75 inches in thickness. People who are between 100 and 139 lbs. can ride a fun board that is between 7 and 7 feet, 4 inches in length. A good rule of thumb for finding out the right fun board size is to add two to four more inches in length to the surfboard for every 20 lb. increase in weight.
Short Board
-
Short boards lack the speed of a long board but offer you the ability to make tighter turns. They are about 6 to 7.5-feet in length and between 18 to 22 inches in width. People who are between 100 and 139 lbs. should select a short board that is between 6 feet, 2 inches and 6 feet, 4 inches in length. For every 20 lbs., add another two to four inches in length.
Fish
-
A fish is a very short surf board that can be between less than 6 feet in length and 8 feet in length. Its shortness allows you to surf smaller waves. People who are between 100 and 140 lbs. should ride a fish that is between 5 feet, 10 inches and 6 feet, 4 inches in length. Add two to four more inches per every 20 lb. increase in weight.
Long Board
-
A long board offers a surfer greater speed and stability on a wave. Long boards measure between 9 and 12 feet in length. People who are between 100 and 159 lbs. should choose a long board that is between 9 feet and 9 feet, 2 inches. Add two more inches in length for every 20 lb. increase in your weight.
