Dive Shops in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is known as the "Enchanted Island," and this is certainly true when it comes to the underwater realm. The diving in Puerto Rico is superb. The island has continental shelf surrounding it on three sides, featuring coral reefs, caves, sea walls and trenches that divers of all experience levels can explore. On Puerto Rico's many dive sites, divers can encounter angelfish, jacks, bluehead wrasse, butterfly fish, sea horses, coral shrimp, octopuses, batfish, flying gurnards, barracuda and turtles, to name but a few.

    • Sea Ventures Dive Center in Fajardo offers a comprehensive range of Professional Association of Diving Instructors, or PADI, courses from Beginner up to Instructor, and instruction is available in both English and Spanish. The center offers two dive trips in the morning and afternoon, as well as snorkeling and Discover Scuba trips (for those who want to try diving). Night diving is also available on request. Local dive sites include Pyramid for beginners, more advanced diving at Cay Diablo, or wreck diving at Big Rock. Dive packages from this center are also available in conjunction with Fajardo Inn Resort.

    Sea Ventures Dive Center, Palmas Del Mar

    • Located in Palmas Del Mar, a high-end resort area in Eastern Puerto Rico that has up to 35 dive sites in a five-mile radius off the shore, the Palmas Del Mar base of Sea Ventures has PADI courses up to Divemaster, the opening professional diving level. Sea Ventures conducts dive trips twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon, with dive sites ranging in depth from 28 feet to over 120 feet. They teach Discover Scuba classes in the pool first, and then out in open water. There are also snorkeling trips available to nearby Monkey Island.

    Blackbeard Sports, Vieque

    • The only PADI dive center in Vieque, Blackbeard Sports offers a range of dive trips including Surf-entry dives, boat dives, night diving, and Discover Scuba diving for those who have not tried diving before. PADI courses offered at the dive center range from the beginner up to Divemaster. Blackbeard Sports is a licensed Mares Dealer and Service Center with a fully stocked shop, and they can arrange camping, biking and fishing tours.

    Aqua Adventure, San Juan

    • Aqua Adventures is located in San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico. Diver training courses are available all the way up to PADI Divemaster level with instruction in both English and Spanish. Aqua Adventures features wreck diving trips and diving trips to the Blue Hole, an area where pirates used to frequent, according to the dive center. In addition to dive trips, Aqua Adventures offers Snuba adventures, jungle adventures, snorkeling trips and Sunset Bay Tours.
