Sing Along With Hawkeyes Fight Songs
-
1
Learn the "Iowa Fight Song." It goes: "The word is "Fight! Fight! Fight! for IOWA, let every loyal Iowan sing. The word is "Fight! Fight! Fight! for IOWA," until the walls and rafters ring (go Hawks)! Come on and cheer, cheer, cheer, for IOWA. Come on and cheer until you hear the final gun. The word is "Fight! Fight! Fight! for IOWA" until the game is won."

2
Memorize the first verse of "On Iowa," which goes: "On, Iowa proudly at the fore. On, Iowa on for evermore. Ev'ry loyal son will give a rousing toast to you, ev'ry loyal daughter loves you true. On, Iowa with your wealth untold, a heritage to us you did unfold. Love of family, love of friend, love of country too. Makes us proud for what you stand, our dear Old Gold."
-
3
Sing "Iowa! Iowa! Iowa! Iowa! I-O-W-A!" right after the first verse.
-
4
Add on verse two of "On Iowa," which is: "Fight, Iowa, never, never yield. Fight, Iowa, fight right down the field. Get in the game and watch the ball--be a fighting man. Hit 'er hard, give Iowa all you can! Fight, Iowa, you'll be sure to hold--we're with you with the pep and love of old. Fight for family, fight for friend, fight for country too. But fight hard today and win for dear Old Gold."

Learn the main verses to "In Heaven There Is No Beer," and fit right in with the student crowd: "In Heaven, there is no beer. (No beer?!) That's why we drink it here. And when we're all gone from here, our friends will be drinking all the beer. In Heaven, there is no wine. (No wine?!) So we drink till we feel fine. And when we leave this all behind, our friends will be drinking all the wine."

Listen to audio clips, played by the school's own band if possible, of the fight songs you want to learn to sing. FightMusic.com has direct links to performances of all the University of Iowa fight songs, as well as the fight songs of other teams in the NCAA's Big Ten Conference (see Resources below).
-
7
Play the songs you want to sing by streaming the audio in your music playback software. If this causes problems because you have a slower Internet connection, download the songs directly. If you use the iTunes music store, you will have to purchase the music (see Resources below).
-

Turn the music off and put the lyrics sheet away. Then, try to sing the song without accompaniment, by heart. Once you can, you're ready to head to a Hawkeyes game and sing along with the crowd!
