Learn the first verse of the "Notre Dame Victory March," which is: "Rally sons of Notre Dame: sing her glory and sound her fame. Raise her gold and blue and cheer with voices true: Rah, rah, for Notre Dame! We will fight in ev'ry game, strong of heart and true to her name--we will ne'er forget her and will cheer her ever loyal to Notre Dame!"

Get to know verse two: "Cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame, wake up the echoes cheering her name. Send a volley cheer on high, shake down the thunder from the sky! What though the odds be great or small, old Notre Dame will win over all, while her loyal sons are marching onward to victory!"

Print the lyrics and keep them handy. A good trick to use is to manually re-type the lyrics, line by line, into a word processor. That forces your brain to process each lyric individually and will help you memorize the words faster.

    • 4

Use an official performance of the "Notre Dame Victory March," as played by the school band. Notre Dame's website has a link to the music (see Resources below). Listen to the song play while you follow along using your lyrics printout. Get a sense of the song's rhythm, tempo and progression.

Sing along with the song as it plays. Repeat this until you feel confident enough to try it without referring to the sheet with the lyrics on it. Refer back to the lyrics only to fill in gaps where you get stuck.

Keep at it! Before long, you'll have the whole song, music and lyrics, committed to memory. That way, the next time you're at a Notre Dame Fighting Irish sporting event you'll be able to sing along with the band and the crowd!
