How to Put Together a Mascot Skit

A mascot should have several skits ready for each game. Put together one longer skit to use during halftime, but also have several very short "bits" that you can use to take advantage of timeouts and other pauses in the action.

  • Follow spot light and operator, if possible
  • Variety of props to be pulled from the bag

  1. Put Together a Mascot Skit to Keep Your Audience Laughing

      Plant a female assistant in the audience with a very large tote bag. Be certain she is seated where she can be clearly seen. If possible, have a follow spot on you when you go into the crowd.

      "Steal" her purse and run with it to a spot in full view, then open it. If your assistant is willing to play an active role, have her chase you and keep trying to get the bag back.

      Start removing strange items and showing them to the crowd. Use your imagination: a rubber duck, a bunch of bananas or whatever would be funny to find in a purse. Make sure each is large enough to be clearly seen.

      Stop after removing 5 or 6 items. Hold the bag open and stare into it. Look at the woman in amazement. Look into the bag again and shudder or clap your hand over your mouth as if you were going to vomit.

      Close the bag and very slowly return it to her, holding it with 2 fingers and far away from your body as if whatever you saw in there is something really disgusting.

      Wipe your hands on a spectator sitting nearby.
