How to Do a Front Flip on a Snowboard

Execute a front flip on a snowboard by using a jump to leverage yourself off the ground to complete a full forward rotation. Experienced snowboarders consider completing a front flip relatively easy. However, it is important for snowboard enthusiasts to learn the front flip, as it is often a key element in more difficult tricks.

Instructions

    • 1

Press your toes forward to begin your descent down the slope. Shift your weight to the back to increase speed and glide towards a jump.

    • 2

Line your snowboard up straight with a jump while boarding at a moderate amount of speed. If you go too quickly, you can lose control. If you go too slowly, you can't complete the rotation.

    • 3

Lean forward and maintain your balance as you approach the jump. Relax your body and bend your knees. Keep your arms close to your body to prevent wind resistance.

    • 4

Throw all of your body weight forward at the lip of the jump, or the edge, and spring off the nose or front tip of the snowboard.

    • 5

Rotate your body in midair and bring your legs and snowboard around as your body weight shifts to complete the front flip. Under rotate and you might land on your back. Overrotate and you could land on your head.

    • 6

Keep your knees bent to soften your landing as the board falls flat back on the slope. Practice the maneuver to determine the optimum speed for your body weight.
