How to Take a Snowboard Stomp Pad Off

It can be difficult to take a snowboard stomp pad off without leaving behind adhesive residue. Furthermore, you pose the risk of damaging your snowboard's finish if you pry at the stomp pad, especially if it is made of a stiff, plastic material. For this reason, dental floss is used to cut through the stomp pad adhesive. This makes the removal procedure much easier, and ensures your snowboard finish remains unscathed.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a dental floss that is very fine. This allows you to cleanly cut the adhesive away from the back of the stomp pad. Alternatively, fine fishing line can be used.

    • 2

Cut the dental floss at a length longer than the width of the stomp pad. Wrap the ends of the dental floss tightly around your index fingers. Work the floss under the edge of the stomp pad with a sawing motion, applying downward pressure to cut into the underside of the adhesive.

    • 3

Work the dental floss backward, pressing downward to cut away the stomp pad adhesive as cleanly as possible. Do not peel up the stomp pad once the edge is loose, as this will tear an excess amount of adhesive away from the pad, leaving it stuck to your snowboard.

    • 4

Remove the stomp pad once you have cut entirely through the adhesive. Use the dental floss to saw away any remaining large chunks of adhesive or foam. Wipe away any loose adhesive remaining on the board.

    • 5

Soak the remaining residue with liquid adhesive remover. Allow the adhesive remover time to soak in; scrub away at the residue with a cloth rag. The adhesive remover liquefies the residue such that it easily scrubs away from the snowboard. You may have to reapply the adhesive remover multiple times to remove all of the remaining residue.

Use a clean rag and water to wash away any excess adhesive remover and remaining residue. This is especially important if you are installing a new stomp pad, as the presence of adhesive remover prevents your new stomp pad from properly sticking to your snowboard.
