How to Use Oakley Tearoffs

Oakley produces goggles and accessories for visor-free helmets in the motorcycling industry. The company developed tearoffs to provide quick release and high specification goggle shields in dirt bike racing. Oakley tearoffs are suitable for the complete range of MX goggles and are available in a variety of sizes dependent upon the model type. The tearoffs use optical-grade Mylar to provide crisp visual clarity and some have a laminate coating to accelerate dirt removal while riding. Oakley tearoffs are easy to use, and install in just a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the goggles with water and mild soap to clear away any mud splashes. Use your fingers to gently wash away the dirt and avoid scratching the lenses.

    • 2

Dry the goggles with the Oakley bag that came with the goggles set. The material of the bag is suitable for drying the goggles and the manufacturer recommends its use. Do not use any abrasive cloth or a paper product to dry the goggles because it damages the coating on the goggles.

    • 3

Place your MX goggles on a table with the front facing toward you. Open the bag of tearoffs and make a decision on how many you want to install, based upon the condition of the dirt track and length of time racing. Oakley recommend using a maximum of six tearoffs in one stack.

    • 4

Align the tearoffs together so that the hole on each side lines up with the one beneath, and all tags are on the right-hand side as you look at them. Thread the holes onto the tearoff pegs located to each side of the goggles eye lenses. Using medium pressure push the tearoffs onto the goggles until they adhere.

    • 5

Fold the tags back at a 45-degree angle so that it's easy to tear only one off at a time when riding. Remove a tearoff by grasping the tag with your hand and pulling across the goggle's visual field.
