How to Do a 360 on the Ripstick

Performing a 360-degree spin on a RipStik involves winding the board in a circle in midair and landing on both feet. This spin takes several practice rounds to achieve and may result in taking a spill on the first few tries. Doing this spin with momentum, rather than performing it from a standstill, results in optimal speed and execution. According to RipStik expert Harley Jones, the 360-degree spin is one of the most difficult tricks to execute.

Instructions

    • 1

Skate in a straight line or around in circles as you normally would on your RipStik. Focus on keeping your body balanced and gaining momentum for the spin.

    • 2

Aim your board in the direction you wish to perform the 360-degree spin. Harley Jones recommends traveling up a ramp and performing the spin at the top for help with liftoff, but this is not a requirement.

    • 3

Turn your shoulders gently in the direction you want to spin. For example, for a left spin, skate with your left shoulder forward, and twist your left shoulder to the left. As you do so, turn your head in the same direction. Keep both feet flat on the board.

    • 4

Point the board toward the ramp or in the direction of the spin. Bend your knees, keeping both feet flat on the board. Put a little pressure on the board with your right foot to get a little lift, then thrash your body quickly around in a circle. Harley Jones recommends popping your shoulders to achieve a whipping motion. Both wheels may come off the ground during the move. This should all occur at the top of the ramp if you're using one.

    • 5

Prepare to land the board. Each foot should still be in the same position on the board. Bend your knees to equip them for impact upon landing. You may need to maintain a curved path after landing to avoid tipping off the board or crashing.
